Guiding the Way

Santa Cruz Lighthouse by Tori

I had read an article a while back about how people were snatching up lighthouses up the coast and were turning them into little hostels or bed and breakfasts and thought it was such a neat idea.  I'm aware that the selection of lighthouses on the west coast of the United States pales in comparison to the east coast, but I still find myself amused by the beauty of the ones that I do have access to.  Especially since one of my favorite places in our town is the one here, I've taken a bit of a fancy to them overall. On Saturday, I'm getting in my car for a solo roadtrip adventure away from my keyboard and up Highway One to Point Reyes, hopefully seeing no less than 5 beautiful guiding beacons to capture in photos, with a chance to see over 10!

Anyway, it got me thinking about Poser lighthouses.  Combined with Vue's scene capabilities, I bet there are some pretty awesome coast scenes floating about there.  There are actually quite a few choices for Poser lighthouses, so you can pick which style fits your needs!  Meshbox definitely corners the market!  There is the Haunted Lighthouse, and ones for the Orc, Elven and Halfling Villages!  There is even Lighthouse Audio!  Do you like lighthouses?  Do you have any near where you live or have you visited any before?  Do you own any of the Poser lighthouses?  Share your images with us!

Favorite product of the week

With us celebrating Sydney's birthday right now, I thought it would be a great time to feature one of my favorite products on CP, Medieval Clothing Set for G2 Females (Time Travel Series). I have loved medieval times since I was little.

medieval.jpgIf I could go back in time, I would like to go back to the Middle Ages. For one day at least. Loving everything related to medieval times, I am thrilled that we have a category on CP called 'Medieval Magic'. So let's head over to CP to check out what I am talking about. To find out more about the Middle Ages, I would encourage you to look at the article on Wikipedia.

A shelf full of Poser history.

desk_2.jpg

I have a lot of stuff on my desk.  We could do a whole series on just the Poser memorabilia on my desk.  When we moved, people kept coming by my old desk and commenting on the amount of stuff I had piling into boxes.  (To be fair, I am a collector in my real life too.)  A lot of years worth of software boxes, manuals, autographed books, comic books, etc. lined my shelves and to me became a badge of pride of the accomplishments of the community.  I've been here a long time and also inherited a lot of things a long the way and stuff just seemed to amass around me. Now I have every version of Poser released collected together showing off the mind blowing progress of digital beings while trinkets and clippings aplenty dance around them.  Poser truly is the software of 1001 uses.  Poser has been featured in the New York Times, The San Jose Mercury, and been used regularly in Maxim magazine and USA Today and I've snipped everything I can, like an addict scrapbooker determined to document this wonderful world of art.  I've attended trade shows and been told by movie studios that Poser was their "little secret" to quick previsualization and then laughed when James was used by the doctors in Nip/Tuck and the Dork solved his balding problem in the informercials on my screen.  We've come a long way baby!

What about your Poser collections?  Do you keep all your boxes and display them with pride?  How much do you remember?  Did you hear about the Swanky Voodoo Party at Siggraph in New Orleans with Curious Labs and MetaStream?  Did you get one of the benders or fake CL tattoos we gave away the next year?  Do you have Poser 5 Demystified or the Intro to Poser DVD?  How many Poser books do you own?  Who is your favorite author?  Were you one of the lucky ones to get one of the hundreds of Poser 5 boxes the staff signed as a thank you or prize?  Do you have any random poser tidbit that you treasure?  Tell us!

Let's travel to the North Pole

Who knew that traveling to the North Pole could be so much fun? Have you seen the new North Pole Village models that Meshbox released today? I especially like the new version of Toon Santa. Now Toon Santa is officially the king of the North Pole.

Did you know that Toon Santa is featured on the Norad Santa website? NORAD is a government agency that tracks Santa's route each christmas. They have a really fun animation on their website featuring Toon Santa and his helpers :-)

I also want to introduce to you Taika, the elf girl. She is the newest addition to the North Pole Village.
Besides working in Santa's accounting department, she also likes to play tricks on the other elves.

Add some music :-)

I decided to write about audio today. I have been a huge fan of music since I can remember, and enjoy going to concerts. That’s why I am really excited about the great audio products our vendors have been releasing on Content Paradise.

If you enjoy creating animations with applications such as Poser or Anime Studio, you probably use music files for background music quite a bit.

In the last couple of months, we have added two new audio vendors to Content Paradise, Joel Steudler and Pixelmonkey. Both offer a variety of soundtracks for your animations.

Meshbox has recently combined their classic Christmas audio favorites in one pack so that you can have all the audio you need for your holiday animations at one special price.

Have you looked at Inner Rhythm Studio’s large library of soundtracks yet?

What’s your favorite soundtrack product on CP? Is there something specific that you’re looking for? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading!

Sydney Vs. Chuck Norris

SydSpy.jpg

I can't believe Poser 7 has been out for almost a year.  It seems it has just flown by.  Next week, we'll be kicking off a one week celebration to honor our beloved Poser 7 Female, G2 Sydney.  There will be tons of special deals and featured products from all of our fabulous CP vendors.  We're really excited to shine some light on this sexy mama that floats through your runtimes!

One of the coolest parts of the content business is creating the files into a personality.  Just as I do with the people I paint on canvas, the artists who use Poser become attached to the people that they use to sculpt their images.  The personification of the digital files that run through our systems has been common in Poser forever.  When new figures are released, you can find images posed with them dueling against competitors, and discussions about "who" they are, not just "what" they are.  Shaping the qualities of the figures that drive the imagination of users can be a fun and creative break from the driving of marketing plans and assembling of zip files.  While Poser figures are a varietable blank palette ready for your customization, there also has to be a "default" to start with.  What does this person look like when you first meet them and shake their hand?  So yes, in between meetings about sales forecasts and trade show booth designs, we get to sit around and speculate the fantasy lives of the digital beings that will become your precious people.  And I admit, while my job already rocks, that part can't be beat.

Tired of all the pretty girls in Poser, last year, we decided that Poser was ready for a modern and edgy chick and while we brainstormed the age and birthplace of Sydney, we introduced Sydney vs. Chuck Norris in the CP Forums.   I laughed for days.  Obviously borrowing from the popular Chuck Norris Facts we had users submit their own facts about Sydney, developing the bad girl that would grace screens all over the world this year.  Check out the thread and submit your own ones!  It's never too late to share what dark secrets you know!

Sydney has gone from bad girl to clown girl this year, with hundreds of products now available at Content Paradise to make her YOUR dream girl.  Do you have any favorite Sydney products you think are must haves?  Watch next week's CP Weekly for special offers and exciting deals to kick off the Sydney birthday celebration!
